"Decoguys" set for more books, televisions

Herb Millman and John Dwyer, owners of Cockamamie's in New Hope are on a roll. They are about to publish their second book and start a third and as the "Decoguys," they're preparing for their first television pilot.

Millman and Dwyer, who published their first book "Art Deco Lighting" in 2001, are working on the final photography for "Shades of the Past: Exploring Art Deco Lighting,” the second book. They hope to send the book off to print by May 1.

In mid-May they will begin their third book for Schiffer Publishing - this one on Art Deco furniture. They feel the third book will take a year to complete.

This month Millman and Dwyer, better known as the "Decoguys" on the Internet, will begin filming of a television pilot with the working title "20th-century Unlimited with the Decoguys" at their shop.

The concept is to examine the history of 20th-century furnishings and collectibles, highlight different shops and shopkeepers to provide an example of a style and demonstrate the way Art Deco and other 20th-century styles can work in your home. The Philadelphia producer expects the show to be picked up by a major cable network.  Millman is president of the New Hope Chamber of Commerce.

New Hope retailers to share expertise with the world.

Herb Millman and John Dwyer, owners of Cockamamie's in New Hope, appear to be in the midst of quite a roll.

Their first coffee table book, Art Deco Lighting, was published in 2001.  They are wrapping up work on their second lighting book this month.  The last of the photography will be completed before the end of this month.

Millman's and Dwyer's second book has been in the works for the last year-and-a-half.  The working title of the piece is Shades of the Past Exploring Art Deco Lighting.  Once the galleys are completed and approved, the authors/entrepreneurs hope to send it off for printing by the start of May.

There's no rest for the weary, though.  Later in May, Millman and Dwyer hope to begin work on their third book for Schiffer Publishing.  The subject: Art Deco furniture.  Millman and Dwyer expect the book to take about a year to complete.

Between the store and the books, one would think Dwyer and Millman's plate is full enough, but they would have to disagree.  A Philadelphia television producer has approached the two about appearing in a television pilot that would be filmed in their Bridge Street shop.

Millman and Dwyer, better known as "Decoguys" on the Internet will be filming the pilot this month under the working title Twentieth Century Unlimited with the Decoguys.

The concept of the show is to examine the history of 20th century furnishings and collectibles, highlight different shops and shopkeepers in the field, and demonstrate how Art Deco and other 20th century styles can be used in your home.

Segments on lighting, furniture, and how to begin collecting are already planned Millman, president of the New Hope Chamber of Commerce said,

Deco rates well
Designing men may become a fixture on television

NEW HOPE, Pa. - If things work out for two regular guys from New Hope, who just happen to be art deco experts, the flourishing number of interior design shows cropping up on cable television will have some competition.

Herb Millman and John Dwyer, owners of the popular art deco design shop, Cockamamie's, have been selected by Philadelphia producer B.K. Productions to star in a television pilot scheduled to begin filming next week.  Producers believe the show will be picked up by cable television networks.  The pilot will be shot at the store under the working title, "Twentieth Century Unlimited with the Decoguys."  Cockamamie's is a three-time winner of New Hope's "Arty Award" for best antique shop.

Millman and Dwyer are the authors of two books on art deco lighting and one on furniture still in the works.

Better known as "The Decoguys" on their Internet web site, Millman and Dwyer say the show will examine the history of 20th century art deco furnishings and collectibles, highlight shops specializing in art deco accessories, and show viewers how the designs can work in their homes.

"Viewers who are new collectors will learn how to begin collecting and, if they so desire, how to turn a room or an entire home into a 1930s movie set," said Millman.
